Heavy rain moved through the Bay-Waveland area overnight, leaving in its wake cold and windy weather. But the area avoided the severe thunderstorms and tornadoes that were seen to the north.

"We were very fortunate. It seemed to go right around us," said David Greiser, a spokesman for the Hancock County Emergency Operations Center.

At least 20 people spent the night in the shelter provided by Stennis Space Center nearby, which had offered to take up to 1,200.

It's scary in the trailers in this gusty wind, but I guess a tent would be worse.

Glad it did not get as bad as forecast. Again everyone, have that "Plan B" in place for when the weather turns truly bad, or whoever reads this and may live in areas prone to floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, whatever. The plan should include basic living essentials to get you through at least five days until better shelter is found or offered by FEMA or another agency. Supplies should include diapers and formula for babies, first aid kits, spare medications (and be sure to put a date on these items so that when you check on them they can be easily replenished with newer goods. Supplies should be checked on a monthly basis to ensure dates are still good. Should have food items that are easy to prepare even the kind that all you have to do is add water too, or canned goods-but don't forget the can opener...and many other things. There are sites that have a good COMPLETE list of survival type stuff to keep in an area that will be easily accessable. We keep our "Emergency Kit" in the trunk of the car, as if we are told to leave all we have to do is grab our kitties in their carrier and be outta here.
Anyway, with all of these storms, and other things going on in the world, just think being prepared is best. As for those that are stuck in this weather over there, we hope you are able to keep warm and have enough blankets. God bless you all and be safe. And do not be timid about seeking shelter if the weather is forecast to be bad. Do not wait until you realize the storm really is going to hit bad, just get yourselves and your pets to safety. Again, our prayers with you all.

we got the storms worse than you and if they had to come better us as you my house is still good...lord it would be bad to be in a tent...bless you
