"Walking on Water" is the title of a unique art catalog published by The Arts, Hancock County Mississippi. The purpose of the book is to promote the art and artists of Hancock County. The full-color, 58-page catalog features artwork by 66 of the artist members and includes examples of paintings, sculpture, ceramics, photographs, original prints, books, jewelry, stain glass, collage and wood carvings.

It includes a history of the county and information about The Arts organization both before and after Hurricane Katrina. There is a brief description of the efforts to help artists obtain much-needed art supplies and the address for The Arts Disaster Relief Fund.

In addition, the catalog includes bios of four outstanding artists that Hancock County claims as its own: Richmond Barthe, Alice Moseley, Stephen Ambrose and Pete Fountain. While Barthe was born here and went on to travel the world, the other three traveled the world before making their home in Hancock County.

The Wingate Foundation, of Siloam Springs, Ark., graciously funded a grant for the publication, which was submitted by Vice President Claire Haun. It will be used to raise funds and raise awareness of the plight of these Gulf Coast artists. Design and pre-press was by b.r. studio & design, photography and reproduction of artwork by B. R. Hawkins, publication by Grey Oyster Publications.

Malcolm White, director of the Mississippi Arts Commission, wrote the forward for the catalog and other noted dignitaries contributed remarks, including President George W. Bush and former President William J. Clinton.

“Setting aside all fear of the ruthless storm, Peter stepped out of the boat. Despite all that was in evidence around him, he found the courage to trust. And it was in that one brief moment, he walked on water. For those few incredible steps, he walked on water.

"For us, in the aftermath of a ruthless storm, we are walking on faith. Despite all that is in evidence around us, we are painting, dancing, singing, writing, drawing, printing, sculpting …we are creating. And it is in this one moment, we are walking on water.” B.R. Hawkins.

The catalog, which costs $20.00, will be available for sale at all art exhibits and art events involving The Arts, and on The Arts web site: www.hancock-art.com. In old town Bay St. Louis, the book can be found at Social Chair, 212 Main Street, and at The Artists at 220 Main.
